Ruto’s Plot Behind Mwangaza Impeachment, Kahiga Claims
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has accused the national government of orchestrating a political plot to disrupt devolution through the impeachment of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
Kahiga, a close associate of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, described the impeachment as a severe threat to devolution, asserting it was a politically motivated attack.
“I believe the removal of Governor Mwangaza was driven by political motives. Her impeachment occurred just three months after her election before she had even established a government or set a budget,” Kahiga stated on Thursday.
The Nyeri Governor has called on President William Ruto to take immediate action to address and curb political interference in county matters.

“We often feel frustrated by the national government’s approach. Why not fully delegate all functions?” he questioned, referring to the national government’s recent recruitment of agrieprenuers for tasks that should be handled by agricultural extension officers.
Kahiga also criticized the reduction of the County Shareable Revenue from Sh480 billion to Sh380 billion, labeling the National Assembly as “rogue.”
“The National Assembly needs to understand that counties exist as a fundamental part of governance, not by accident,” he emphasized.
He also condemned the National Assembly’s decision to transfer the Road Maintenance Levy to the national government.
“We recently saw them remove the Road Maintenance Levy from our jurisdiction, and now they’re cutting our allocation, which is unconstitutional,” Kahiga remarked.
As a result of these actions, Kahiga indicated that Nyeri will lose Sh300 million, an amount equivalent to its salary expenses.
