Ruto Allies’ Provocation Triggers Uhuru’s Political Engagement
President William Ruto finds himself in a challenging situation as his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, shows no signs of stepping away from active political involvement. Supporters of Mr. Kenyatta assert that it is President Ruto’s loyalists who have instigated the former President’s participation in politics, which seems to be undermining the Kenya Kwanza Alliance government.
“What do you expect Mr Kenyatta to do when the likes of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa and Budget Committee Chairman Ndindi Nyoro keep throwing brickbats at him?” asked Kirinyaga County Jubilee Party Chairman Muriithi Kang’ara.
He further stated that the former President has a group of supporters who were defeated in the 2022 elections and have continued to remain loyal to him within the Jubilee Party. However, President Ruto has devised strategies to disperse them.
Mr. Kang’ara expresses that the residents of Mt Kenya region harbor a sense of being deceived as a result of the Ruto administration’s failure to promptly fulfill the pre-election commitments.

“Most importantly, this habit of Mr Gachagua believing that he can lead a smear campaign against the Kenyatta family in the Mountain to gain political prominence is a dream gone too far,” said Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni. “We will not relent in our quest and desire to talk to our people and sensitise them on the fraud that ended in vote rigging in Mt Kenya region.”
Mr Kioni said “those who have a price are free to go to the political black market now living in Statehouse … and you will be bought”.
Additional supporters of Mr. Kenyatta have cautioned President Ruto and Mr. Gachagua to prepare for a major and intense contest both at the national level and specifically within the Mt. Kenya region.
Mr. Kamau Mweha, who represents Mr. Raila Odinga’s interests in the Mt. Kenya region, stated that they will not relinquish the symbols of power in Mt. Kenya that were granted to Mr. Kenyatta by the Kikuyu Council of Elders back in 2013.
He added: “One thing we will not accept is to be left without a political party to call our own. Even if it is not Jubilee, we will build another party. We will keep the relationship with Mr Odinga for the 2027 engagement and we will sort it out.”
Former Education and Sports Chief Administrative Secretary, Zack Kinuthia, expressed his belief that by 2025, the region of Mt Kenya will establish a distinct political identity within a strong political party.
This party aims to leverage the shortcomings of Kenya Kwanza to bring about meaningful change and progress for the country.

Kinuthia further stated that Mt Kenya is currently experiencing political disillusionment, as internal power struggles among its influential figures have arisen, ultimately leading to the fragmentation of the electorate.
Mr. Kinuthia expressed that President Ruto will face a significant electoral challenge due to the ongoing political events in the nation led by Mr. Odinga and Mr. Kenyatta.
Former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria expressed the view that the Mount Kenya region requires a political leader who can save them, as the individuals who secured power through deceptive means have now acknowledged that they never reached a formal consensus on the necessary advancements for the area.
He further mentioned that the individuals supporting the hustler movement in the Mt Kenya region are currently agitated due to the pre-election commitment to enhance entrepreneurship by implementing favorable policies.

Mr. Wa Iria expressed that Mr. Kenyatta will continue to hold the position of the influential leader in the Mt. Kenya region until he explicitly states that he no longer wishes to be in that role.
During the preparations for the August 2022 elections, Moses Kuria, the Trade Cabinet Secretary responsible for coordinating the development of economic plans in the Mt. Kenya area, mentioned that if Dr. Ruto were to win the presidency, regular performance evaluations would be conducted every six months.
As President Ruto completes his eighth month in office, individuals associated with the hustler movement eagerly anticipate the first review meeting.
Mr Kang’ara called on Mr Kenyatta’s allies to stick together.
“I urge our loyalists to remain steadfast and committed to the broader cause… Let us not be dragged into petty wars that only serve to make our detractors happy. Let us now come together, examine ourselves and, with the guidance and support of the retired president, use the five years ahead of us to plan for a comeback,” he said.
