Kimani Ichung’wah Boldly Rejects Intimidation: Refuses to Withdraw Retirement Perks Despite Uhuru’s Pressure

Kimani Ichung’wah, the leader of the majority in the National Assembly, responded to former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday, May 22, denying that the Kenya Kwanza administration intimidated him.

The Kikuyu member of parliament stated to the residents of Kinoo that President William Ruto’s administration did not also violate Uhuru’s rights.

He disclosed, however, that President Ruto’s administration had resolved to protect the former president’s constitutionally protected rights.

“No one is selling you fear!” No one can intimidate you! Our Constitution safeguards your right as a former president to do whatever you please. We will defend your rights just as we defend the rights of these Kenyans, declared Ichung’wah.

Ruto’s administration would also ensure that Uhuru receives his retirement benefits despite his attendance at Jubilee’s National Delegates Conference on May 22 at Ngong Race Course.

The lawmaker insisted that the current regime had no intention of withholding the benefits, despite Uhuru’s refusal to retire in violation of the Presidential Retirement Act, which prohibits him from engaging in active politics for six months after leaving office.

“We do not care about his retirement benefits. Ichung’wah insisted, “We are only asking Uhuru Kenyatta to give us space, time, and peace to restore our economy to its rightful place.”

However, he maintained his attacks on the former president, accusing him of directly pushing for the return of anti-government demonstrations to undermine Ruto’s administration.
His remarks came after Uhuru accused several Kwanza administration leaders of intimidating him.

Uhuru revealed at the Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference that the raid on his Northlands farm prompted him to return to active politics.

“There was a time when I considered leaving politics. I anticipated that my arrival at NDC would coincide with the passing of the leadership mantle.

“However, some individuals have decided to engage in intimidation and threats,” Uhuru explained.

Thus, he cautioned the ruling regime against seizing control of the Jubilee Party.

He criticized Jubilee lawmakers who had joined Kenya Kwanza, labeling them traitors.

After the meeting of delegates, Uhuru decided to expel Jimmy Angweny, Former Buuri MP Boniface Kinoti Gatobu, Naomi Shaban, Nelson Dzuya, Joshua Kutuny, Mutava Musyimi, and East African Legislative Assembly member Kani Kega.

Former Principal Secretary Saitoti Torome was named party chairman, and Pauline Njoroge was named Deputy Organising Secretary.

In addition, Jubilee appointed Beatrice Gambo as Deputy Party Leader for Strategy, Maoka Maore as Deputy Party Leader for Operations, Joseph Manje as Programmes Director, and Kados Muiruri as Outreach Director.

Jamleck Kamau was named Director of Elections for the Jubilee Party, while Yasir Noor assumed the position of Deputy Secretary General.

Kega, on the other hand, rejected the expulsion report because Uhuru had not followed proper procedure.

He vowed to take disciplinary action against the previous president.
