Romania Recalls Ambassador to Kenya Amid Racist Remarks Firestorm

Tuesday marked the inauguration of Gentiana Serbu, the newly appointed Romanian ambassador to Kenya after the recall in June of Dragos Tigau for discriminatory remarks, as announced by President William Ruto.

Ruto verified in a statement that the diplomat had presented her credentials to him at the State House and delineated significant domains of collaboration between the two countries.

Ruto, in addition to designating tourism as a key concern, reaffirmed the alliance’s dedication to preserving robust diplomatic relations, which are in keeping with the constructive alliance that has been forged in recent times.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who also oversees the Foreign Affairs portfolio, accompanied Ruto.

“Relations between Kenya and Romania have been growing over time, making way for the exploration of opportunities in trade, investment, and education.

“We are looking forward to escalating our ties to cover other areas such as tourism for the mutual benefit of the two countries,” he stated.

Serbu has accumulated extensive diplomatic experience, having served in numerous countries such as Moldova, Cuba, and Belgium, among others.
