Maurice Ogeta, the bodyguard of former prime minister Raila Odinga, was reportedly dumped along Kangundo Road after being AWOL for over two days.

According to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Communications Director Phillip Etale, Ogeta was discarded in Ruai at approximately 1:00 a.m. on July 21.

Raila’s aide was reportedly dropped off on the highway blindfolded and unaware of his circumstances.

“Ogeta was released from police custody a few minutes before 1 a.m., driven blindfolded towards Kangundo, and abandoned in the middle of the road in Ruai.”

His automobile has been vandalized. “However, he is grateful to be alive,” he said.

Etale added that Ogeta was also traumatized by the incident, stating that he was still upset and in disbelief.

According to reports, Ogeta was detained by police officers at the Utawala Police Station. The police and other investigating organizations have not yet responded to the allegations.

Raila denied reports that Ogeta had been released from detention on July 20 and emphasized that the opposition was still searching for him.

“We will not abandon anyone. “Free Ogeta,” commanded the opposition leader.

The discharge of Raila’s bodyguard occurred hours after High Court Judge Lawrence Mugambi ordered Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to present the security officer in court.

Mugambi stated that the directive would permit his family and the court to ascertain the reasons for his detention.

“Pending the hearing and determination of this application inter-parties, a writ of habeas corpus is hereby issued directing the 2nd Respondent (Koome) to produce Maurice Ogeta before a court of competent jurisdiction in Nairobi or any other Court within the Republic of Kenya for an inquiry into the issue of his detention,” the court ordered.

The court issued the directive after Ogeta’s family filed an emergency motion inquiring about his whereabouts.

Ogeta was arrested on his way to work on Wednesday, July 19, in advance of opposition-led nationwide demonstrations.
