Raila Odinga’s Nephew Heads Friends of Baba Africa in AUC Chair Pursuit
Jaoko Oburu, who is the nephew of Azimio leader Raila Odinga, currently serves as the head of the Global Chair for Friends of Baba Africa (FOBA). This advocacy group is actively working to garner backing for the opposition leader’s candidacy for the position of Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).
In a post published on Monday, March 11, Jaoko conveyed that FOBA is putting in extra effort to garner the necessary backing from various parts of the continent to facilitate Raila’s journey to Addis Ababa.
“FOBA’s mission is broad-reaching, focusing on creating a robust continental network,” he explained.
“This network aspires to have representation from every African country, establishing the groundwork for Raila’s visits to each nation.”
Jaoko states that an additional directive for the lobby group will involve customizing Raila’s manifesto and overall communication strategy as he pursues the AUC seat.
This entails crafting messages tailored for different Heads of State to reflect the unique needs and concerns of individual countries.

Jaoko clarified that given the extensive nature of the task, in his role as the global chair of FOBA, he would be responsible for supervising the creation of an all-encompassing network throughout the continent.
Raila’s relative additionally mentioned that the delegates in every nation would assist in enabling Raila to directly engage with their respective leaders.
Jaoko suggests that only by utilizing such setups can Raila customize his campaign message effectively.
Raila initially declared his intention to replace Moussa Faki as the AUC chair on February 15th, following an endorsement from former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He has subsequently engaged in discussions with Presidents Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda to obtain their backing.
The ex-prime minister has additionally mentioned that he is currently working on gathering backing from all leaders of the East African Community (EAC).
