Please Impeach Them- Kimani Ichung’wah Slams MPs for Skipping Sessions

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah criticized certain Members of Parliament for their absence during parliamentary sessions.

In a session held on Wednesday, November 6, Ichung’wah highlighted committee chairpersons and vice chairpersons, even listing the names of those absent to bring attention to the issue.

He called on these leaders to fulfill their duties or step down, suggesting that Parliament members consider impeachment if they repeatedly fail to attend.

“We must emphasize the importance of members being present in the House, particularly chairpersons and vice chairpersons. If you hold a committee leadership position, you should be in the House by 2:30 p.m. I’m addressing both sides of the House—committee leaders, please take your roles seriously.

“If not, there are another 280 members ready to take up these positions. If you can’t prioritize your duties in the House, it’s honorable to step aside. I’m not advocating for impeachment, but if necessary, please impeach absent chairpersons and vice chairpersons,” Ichung’wah asserted.

His comments followed an afternoon session where several committee leaders were noticeably absent.

Responding to Ichung’wah’s concerns, Deputy National Assembly Speaker Gladys Shollei mentioned that some MPs had already suggested replacing the current chairpersons.

However, she clarified that any action would be deferred until National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, currently abroad, returned to preside.

“What Kimani Ichung’wah raised aligns with resolutions from our recent leadership retreat in Mombasa. Members have indeed suggested changing these chairpersons, but I’ll hold off on moving that motion until the official speaker is back,” Shollei explained.
