Passport Agony as Kenyan Stranded in US Begs for Chance to See His Father One Last Time

A Kenyan stranded in the United States is urging the government to speed up the printing of his passport so he can return to his homeland to visit his father for what could be the last time.

Speaking with Gossipa2z.com, Joachim Magera disclosed that he submitted his passport renewal application on January 27 in Washington DC.

Since then, Magera has expressed frustration over not yet receiving his passport and fears it might arrive too late as his father’s health continues to decline.

“My father’s condition in the hospital is critical, and I wish to see him before it’s too late,” he shared.

Magera explained that he migrated to the US in 1997 seeking better opportunities and has only visited Kenya once in nearly twenty years.

His father suffered a stroke in 1995 and encouraged Magera to pursue the opportunity in the US to support the family and chase his dreams.

“The last time I saw him was in 2015 when I returned for his blessings before getting married,” Magera recalled.

Regarding his infrequent visits to Kenya, Magera cited family and financial obligations as the primary reasons.

Despite the challenges, Magera emphasized that he maintains regular contact with his family in Kenya.

“I believe my father is waiting for me to return home,” he expressed his heartfelt concern.

Magera applied for a 34-page passport on January 10, with his biometrics recorded on January 27.

His passport delay contrasts with the experiences of other Kenyans in the US, who received their passports within a month of applying in March.

On March 21, applicants for the 34-page passport were encouraged to upgrade to the 50-page version for faster processing.
