Ojienda Triumphs for ODM Amidst Expulsion
Senator Tom Ojienda of Kisumu, who represented Governor Ahmed Abdullahi Jiir of the Orange Democratic Movement in a Supreme Court case challenging his election, has praised the court’s decision to uphold the Governor’s election.
Ojienda, who was expelled from ODM on September 6, took to X to celebrate his victory while making a snide remark about the party led by Raila.
“I have just won Supreme Court Pétition E017 of 2023 for Hassan Ahmed Abdullahi Jiir of ODM,” the Senator wrote.
“Winning cases for my party (ODM). The Party expelled me yesterday.”
Along with five other legislators, Tom Ojienda was charged with disobeying the party’s constitution by openly supporting the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and acting against the party’s objectives.

In response to the party’s decision, Ojienda stated that he has no regrets about working with the government and has no plans to cease shortly.
“My party has today expelled me for working with President William Ruto. I have no apology and will continue to work with the President,” Ojienda wrote on X.
The embattled Senator from Kisumu was a member of the legal team that defended the Wajiir Governor against his August 9 opponent, Hassan Mohammed Adam, who had appealed the Court of Appeal’s decision to uphold Jiir’s election.
In a court statement obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the Supreme Court stated that it found “no justifiable reason to interfere with the ruling of the Court of Appeal.”
“Accordingly, the appellant’s appeal is hereby struck out with costs to the respondents,” the Court further directed.
Hassan Mohammed Adam testified that the Wajir governorship election violated the constitution and election law.
“We are challenging the entire irregularities that happened across the county,” Adam had said before Justice George Dulu of the Court of Appeal.
