NTSA Extends Operating Hours Over Issuance Of New Number Plates

Friday, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) declared the extension of working hours to clear the backlog of driving licenses and new-generation license plates

The authority announced in a statement that the adjustments will take effect this weekend.

Monday through Friday, the authority will now operate for extended hours, according to the statement.

“As part of our service improvement strategies, the Authority has adjusted its operating hours. In this regard, all NTSA Banking Halls and Offices will operate, Monday to Friday, from 7.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.,” read the statement.

“Additionally, NTSA offices will remain open to the public on Saturday, 30th September 2023, and Saturday, 7th October 2023 from 8.00 a.m. – to 4.00 p.m. to enable number plate collection.”

The deviation from standard business hours is intended to provide ample time for vehicle owners to retrieve their license plates and identification cards.

The authority will also be able to process documents more quickly, according to the Ministry of Transport.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen conducted an impromptu evaluation of the NTSA’s operations during an unannounced visit to their offices less than a week before the NTSA implemented the changes.

On September 23, the CS instructed NTSA to clear the inventory of driver’s licenses and digital license plates by a specified date.

Several drivers were still awaiting their license plates even though they had already been issued.

He attributed the delays to incompetence and cited the case of Maurice, a motorist from Mombasa who had been informed that the procedure had been completed but had not yet received his new license plates.
