New Job Celebration Turns Tragic for Fresh Graduate

After four years of studying Business Administration at the Cooperative University and graduating in 2022, Emmanuel Omondi’s perseverance paid off in March 2023 when a telecommunications company offered him a position.

But a night out with his friends to celebrate his new job put an end to his elation when he went missing at 2 a.m. on April 1 at the Hornbill Club in Ongata Rongai.

On a fateful night at the bar, Emmanuel accidentally fell and spilled the drinks of the patrons at the adjacent table, according to Emmanuel’s friends.

The bouncers escorted him out of the club after a scuffle. According to his friends, that was the last time they saw him.

“I called Emmanuel and we had a brief discussion. Later, my daughter called and asked if I had spoken to him. I told her I had and even gave her the time, but she said it was impossible because she had received a message that Emmanuel was missing. “She added that Emmanuel’s phone and ID card were likely in the possession of his friends,” his father Julius Odhiambo said.

From their home in Eldoret, Emmanuel’s family rushed to Nairobi to search for him, but they kept hitting dead ends.

“I attempted to communicate with his friends, including the one with whom Emmanuel was staying in Nairobi. We were unable to obtain sufficient information. I was also confused as to why they had included their phone numbers instead of mine on the missing poster. Furthermore, my son does not drink, so the behavior they described cannot be his.” Mr. Odhiambo adds

Nine days after Emmanuel went missing, his family and friends received disturbing news.

A body was found in the septic tank of the Hornbill Club, the location where Emmanuel was last seen.

The body was recovered and transported to City Mortuary, where he was identified by his family.

“Upon observing the body, I realized it was not my son’s. His toes were distinct, and he had a tattoo on his body. My son had no tattoos. Also, the clothes were not what I knew my son to wear, according to Mr. Odhiambo.

However, Emmanuel’s girlfriend. Who spoke under the condition of anonymity. Claims she was with him on the day he vanished and that his clothes matched those found on the body.

Nevertheless, Emmanuel’s family insisted that the body was not that of their son and that he was still alive.

DNA testing

However, police officers from Rongai Police Station led by Sub County Police Commander Hassan Gura. Who has been handling the case since April 1. Insisted that Emmanuel’s family must consent to a DNA test to determine whether or not the body is his.

This will aid the investigation as well. “Once we identify the body found in the septic tank, we will be able to answer other questions, such as why a body was discovered on the club’s property,” explains the sub-county police commander.

The management keeps the septic tank in question locked, adding to the mystery of who dumped the man’s body in it, why, and most importantly, who killed him.

GossipA2Z attempted to interview the manager of the Hornbill Club to hear his side of the story, but he declined.

After being arrested on Friday, 15 workers from the Hornbill Club appeared in court on Monday regarding Emmanuel’s disappearance.

However, the magistrate stated that the 15 could not be remanded in custody until DNA testing could determine the identity of the body found at the club.

Dr. Peter Ndegwa, a government pathologist, collected DNA samples and performed a postmortem examination on the bodies of the 15 defendants when they appeared in court.

However, the post-mortem results were inconclusive because the decomposition of the body made it impossible to determine the cause of death.

To determine the cause of death, the pathologist will instead conduct a toxicological analysis.

“I have told my family to accept whatever the outcome may be, even though we do not want to believe that our child has passed away. Considering how close they are, his siblings are especially affected,” said Mr. Odhiambo.

Julius, Emmanuel’s father, and Emmanuel’s mother also provided DNA samples. Since she has been ill since learning of her son’s disappearance and the recovery of his body from the club, detectives had to travel to Eldoret to collect the documents.
