Murkomen Extends Olive Branch: Offers to Mediate Truce Between President Ruto and Raila
If both parties are willing, Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen says he can arrange a meeting between President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga to negotiate an end to the current impasse over the proposed Finance Bill, 2023.
Murkomen, who spoke at the Kabunde airstrip in Homa Bay County on Monday, opined that President Ruto and Mr. Odinga have previously collaborated, so there is no reason why they cannot renew their friendship.
The Cabinet Secretary stated that the Head of State learned the political ropes from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader and that his ascent to the country’s highest office is also a testament to the opposition leader’s political prowess; consequently, they should consult with one another on a variety of issues about national development.
“I do not see why President William Ruto should not consult more with Raila Odinga’s academy,” said the president of Kenya. “The goal of every educator is to have his students outperform him,” he said.

“If you see William Ruto standing tall, it is on the shoulders of a man named Raila Odinga.” We cannot succeed in building our nation if we continue to fight with one another. Hiyo kitu yenye Baba anataka kumwambia Ruto, wakubaliane wakutane mahali, mimi naweza panga, alafu tuongee.”
CS Murkomen rallied additional support for the contentious Finance Bill of 2023, urging the Azimio leadership to also support it.
He argued that the majority of Bill’s provisions, including the housing levy, were in both Mr. Odinga AND President Ruto’s campaign manifestos, so opposing it now presumably reeks of malice.
“Mimi nilikuwa mtu wa mkono wa Baba (Mr. Odinga), there is no reason why we cannot work together as leaders. Let me say this, ukiona ile mapendekezo mingi iko kwa Finance Bill, kwanza hiyo ya housing, hiyo pendekezo I think ni William Ruto alichukua kutoka kwa Baba,” he said.
“The manifesto ya ODM na UDA kwa mambo ya housing ni the same, ata percentage ni the same… ni ile tu sasa mmoja aliingia, mwingine ataingia baadaye.”
