Murkomen Announces List of Drivers Who Will Have Their Licences Cancelled

Tuesday, Kipchumba Murkomen, cabinet secretary for transportation. Issued a threat of severe consequences for motorists who attempt to traverse flooded rivers.

The government, according to Murkomen, will be vigilant for such drivers, whose licenses will be revoked upon apprehension.

Furthermore, based on attempted suicide, legal action will be taken against such drivers, according to Murkomen. The contention put forth by the Cabinet Secretary is that this trend endangers not only the lives of the chauffeurs but also those of the passengers.

“I want to put our drivers on notice, even after you have crossed the dangerous river, we will still carry out punishment in terms of cancellation of the licenses and you can also be charged for attempted suicide,” Murkomen stated.

CS Murkomen reported that all National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) have been instructed by President William Ruto to remain vigilant for drivers who violate this directive.

“A directive has been given to the County Commissioners, Deputy County Commissioners, to our chiefs and assistant chiefs to be on the lookout for all the transport companies,” the CS stated.

The Transport CS stated that the new regulations will be enforced on both private and public vehicles and that no culpable party will be exempt.

“We must be conscious, in every area where we think the river is flooded. We must deploy police officers around that place to make sure people are stopped from crossing flooded rivers,” Murkomen said.

The majority of the 76 individuals who have perished in floods did so while attempting to cross flooded rivers, according to the CS.

The directives were issued four days after seven individuals perished while attempting to traverse the River Muooni from Kavuthu to Mutyambua by drowning. Due to heavy precipitation, the river was inundated at the time.

It has come to light that the seven individuals succumbed en route home from Kasarani Stadium on Thursday of last week, after attending the 14th Anniversary of the Joyful Women Organization (JOYWO) hosted by First Lady Rachel Ruto.

Prompt deployment of emergency services providers, such as the Red Cross Society, to the location commenced to initiate the retrieval of the deceased.
