A bodyguard of a Member of Parliament was assaulted and had his 15-round gun stolen in Syokimau, Machakos County, on the evening of Monday, April 22.

The constable informed the police that the MP was absent when he was assaulted and had his Jericho pistol stolen.

The officer reported to the police that three men on a motorcycle, carrying a gun, attacked him.

He mentioned that the three individuals trailed him briefly before moving ahead, with one of them dismounting their bike, aiming a gun at him, and demanding cash and his cell phone.

He mentioned that during the attack, a bullet dropped from the gang’s gun, and one of the attackers retrieved it.

“They robbed him of his mobile phone, a Tecno Spark 10C, and Sh15,600 at gunpoint. But they didn’t know he was armed,” reads part of the police report.

As they were robbing him, one of the attackers noticed the gun on his waist and grabbed it.

The officer mentioned in his report that he hesitated to grab his gun due to the fact that the criminals were aiming a gun at him.

He informed the police that the group seized the gun and other valuables and quickly headed towards the Olonyiri area.

The police have started searching the area and investigating the gang’s activities. They are also examining CCTV footage from the vicinity as part of their efforts.

In February, a group assaulted a female police officer in Kasarani, Nairobi, under unclear circumstances and stole her firearm.

An officer from Githurai police station was robbed of her AK47 rifle, which had 30 bullets loaded.

She stated that during night patrol with her coworker, three men approached them armed with a pistol and took her firearm before escaping into the night.

The two officers were on patrol in the Kiwanjani area when the incident occurred.

The latest incident puts another deadly weapon in the hands of criminals, despite the ongoing all-out war against armed gangs across the country.

Several police firearms have been stolen in recent months, raising security concerns.
