Mathare MP Antony Oluoch Arrested on Ngong Road
Parliamentary representative for Mathare, Antony Oluoch, was detained on Ngong Road on Thursday, July 20 at approximately 8 p.m. by plainclothes officers.
According to a statement by Azimio la Umoja, the lawmaker was refueling his vehicle when a group of plainclothes officers approached him and took him to an undisclosed location.
It was reported that the officers demanded his urgent release while driving a vehicle with Tanzanian license plates.
“He was in the vicinity of Nakumatt Junction on Ngong Road. Several Subaru vehicles were observed near the crime scene during the arrest, according to the statement.
Philip Etale, director of communications for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), also confirmed the incident and added that the coalition commanded by former prime minister Raila Odinga was still searching for the lawmaker.
He guaranteed that Mathare constituents and other Azimio legislators would receive punctual updates.
At the time of publication, police had yet to comment on the arrest.
Later in the day, the Milimani High Court is anticipated to rule on the detention of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Bunge la Wananchi leader Calvin Okoth a.k.a. Gaucho.
Together with eight others, the duo was charged with conspiracy to commit subversive acts.
Following the request of Owino’s attorneys, the Chief Magistrate of Milimani, Lukas Onyina, ordered that Owino be transported to a hospital for treatment.

“The first suspect, Owino, will be escorted to the hospital for medical treatment. The remaining defendants will be held at Kileleshwa Police Station until tomorrow, the judge ruled.
Meanwhile, Azimio will hold demonstrations in the Central Business District (CBD) beginning at 10 a.m., with Jevanjee Gardens serving as the focal point.
