Maseno University Student Arrested for Alleged Rape and Violent Robbery of Female Students

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended a student from Maseno University on Thursday for his alleged participation in the rape and violent robbery of fellow female students.

In the April incident reported by a community member, two first-year students, aged 19 and 20, were attacked while sleeping in their shared room.

Detectives stated that the two girls were ambushed in the middle of the night by two attackers armed with a machete and a dagger.

The attackers threatened to stab the terrified girls if they screamed, then allegedly raped them and stole their phones.

After ensuring the attackers had left, the girls screamed for help.

Neighbors, who were on high alert, quickly came to their aid and took the two girls to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The incident was reported to the police, who assembled a team of detectives from Kisumu West to investigate the case.

After several days of tracking the suspects, officers finally caught one of the individuals involved in the crime.

The 23-year-old suspect was apprehended at his home in the Chulaimbo area of Maseno, and one of the stolen phones was recovered.

“New leads to his accomplices have since been obtained and investigators are actively pursuing them,” noted the DCI officers.

In a similar case in November last year, DCI officers arrested a suspect who allegedly sexually assaulted two college students in Kakamega.

A police report indicated that the victims, who shared a room in Kamgoi Village, were abruptly awakened by two heavily armed men at around 6 am.

According to the victims, the two men, armed with pangas and knives, threatened to kill them if they raised an alarm.
