KPLC is set to shut down the token prepaid system for hours

Kenya Power has announced that due to scheduled maintenance on the primary vending system, customers will be unable to purchase prepaid tokens.

Between Saturday and Sunday, the maintenance will be performed for approximately five hours and ten minutes.

In a statement posted to its X, formerly Twitter, account on Saturday, September 9, Kenya Power announced that scheduled maintenance will begin at 11:50 p.m. on Saturday and continue until 5 a.m. on Sunday, September 10, 2023.

“During this time, customers will not be able to purchase electricity tokens via prepaid pay bill number 888880 or Airtel Money.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our customers,” Kenya Power assured.

Despite the inaccessibility of the pay bill option and Airtel money for more than five hours, consumers can still purchase tokens through other systems, such as banks and Kenya Power token agents.

Kenya Power explains on its website that prepaid tokens enable customers to purchase electricity in advance and then use the tokens to power their homes or businesses.

Customers can purchase prepaid tokens from any of Kenya Power’s authorized agents or retailers with access to the regulated system.

The Kenya Power prepaid tokens are crucial to millions of households because the system enables consumers to regulate their electricity consumption.

Customers are only permitted to consume the quantity of electricity they have purchased. This is intended to help them save money by preventing overage fees.

Importantly, the token system helps customers calculate their expenses and avoid unpleasant surprises at the end of the month.

Additionally, the Kenya Power token has proved to be a secure system that has frequently served millions of customers without major technical failures.
