Kindiki New Directive Scrutinised as Accidents Increase
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki’s directive ordering the National Police Service (NPS) to remove all roadblocks across the country has attracted criticism barely a month after the Cabinet Secretary made the announcement.
Limuru residents on Tuesday faulted the directive arguing that it has had a negative effect leading to increased road accidents.
The complaints by the residents came after a grisly accident involving a Probox was reported in the area. According to reports, the driver sustained serious injuries in the accident.
As such, the locals called upon the Cabinet Secretary to review the directive and formulate a framework that would reduce the number of accidents.
Following the accident, the driver was rushed to the Tigoni Hospital for urgent medical treatment. However, the driver is set to be arraigned in court for ferrying donkey meat.
Limuru Sub County Deputy Police Commander Paul Yator issued a stern warning saying that the government will deal decisively with anyone caught selling unsafe meat to unsuspecting consumers.

“The car was traveling toward Nairobi and it was in a self-involved accident. The car rolled over the road resulting in injuries,” Yator stated.
In a directive issued on August 24, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, citing widespread corruption, ordered the removal of all police roadblocks in the country.
The CS explained that his Ministry was working towards deploying technology to solve various challenges across Kenyan roads including the prevalent vice where motorists are forced to pay bribes by police officers..
“We have strengthened the oversight of the police so that there are more checks and balances in place to prevent corruption,” Kindiki stated.
He also argued that the static roadblocks were not effective since motorists had found ways to evade them to avoid dishing out bribes.
Since the directive was effected, several accidents have been reported countrywide, some resulting in fatalities.
One incident was reported along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway involving seven vehicles, one person lost his life while several others were injured.
