Kiambu Deputy Speaker Nabbed: Arrested for Bribery and Land Solicitation Worth Ksh 130K

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested John Njue Njiru, the Deputy Speaker of the Kiambu County Assembly, on June 13.

According to a statement released by the commission on Tuesday, June 13, the deputy speaker, who is also the Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Hospital Ward in Thika, was arrested for allegedly demanding a bribe of Ksh130,000 from a private developer.

“The suspect is accused of demanding a bribe of Ksh130,000 and a free parcel of prime land belonging to the complainant in the city of Thika,” reads a portion of the EACC statement.

EACC’s dispatch also indicated that Njiru demanded the bribe to facilitate and permit the complainant to engage in commercial activities on her Ksh15 million-worth land in Thika Town.

After taking a statement, detectives detained the suspect at the Integrity Centre Police Station of the EACC as officers began their investigation.

His arrest occurred at a time when EACC had intensified its anti-corruption efforts.

The minister also emphasized the significance of forming partnerships with public and private institutions to achieve his objectives.

According to Oginde, coordination would assist the commission in laying the foundation. For assisting President William Ruto in preserving his legacy.
