Khalif Kairo Under Fire Over Unfulfilled Million-Dollar Car Orders

On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, prominent car dealer Khalif Kairo, whose real name is Joseph Kairu Wambui, was arrested in Nairobi.

He was detained at one of his car yards in the city after being accused of swindling clients out of millions of shillings by promising to import luxury cars but failing to deliver.

The charges involve allegations that Kairo took payments from customers under the pretense of bringing in high-end vehicles, but did not fulfill his commitments.

Kairo’s arrest was confirmed by Justus Ombati, the criminal investigations officer at Kasarani Sub-County. According to Ombati, Kairo had been elusive, refusing to refund the money or provide the cars as promised.

“We arrested him after he pocketed large sums of money from a customer, and he has failed to either return the funds or deliver the cars. More victims have come forward, and we have opened a case against him,” Ombati said, as reported by a local media outlet.

Following his arrest, Kairo took to his social media platform, X, to address the situation.

He acknowledged the challenges he was facing in his car sales business, describing them as part of the normal ups and downs of entrepreneurship.

“Challenges are part of business, especially when a company is growing. Every major entrepreneur faces legal or financial issues as they ascend. I’m okay, and I’ll overcome,” Kairo wrote in his post.

Kairo is the founder of Kai and Karo, a car dealership. Before this, he was associated with another company, Imports by Kairo Limited, but parted ways with the business in a very public dispute with its management.

There had been controversy surrounding the ownership of the company, with Kairo claiming to have founded Imports by Kairo, while the management refuted this, stating that he was not in charge.
