Kenyan President Ruto to Engage in Discussion with US Vice President Harris During Visit

President William Ruto is scheduled to engage in a moderated discussion with United States Vice President Kamala Harris during his upcoming trip to the United States, which begins on Friday, May 24.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced on Monday that Ruto and Harris will take part in the U.S.-Kenya Business Forum, an event organized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-Africa Business Center.

Harris has been known as a strong supporter of fostering innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship throughout Africa, particularly through U.S. investments in the region.

According to a statement, Harris will draw upon her previous visit to Africa in March and April of 2023 to discuss both public and private sector initiatives aimed at boosting investment in digital inclusion across the African continent. Additionally, she will highlight the robust partnership between the United States and Kenya concerning technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

In April 2023, Vice President Harris convened a gathering of business and philanthropic leaders in Lusaka, Zambia, to further initiatives promoting digital inclusion in Africa and to build upon the substantial $8 billion in both public and private investments already made.

One of Ruto’s primary objectives during his visit to the U.S. is to encourage development by attracting increased investment opportunities from Western countries.

He intends to emphasize this goal during his meeting with President Joe Biden, as well as during discussions with a congressional delegation and engagements at Capitol Hill.

Departing from Kenya on Sunday night, Ruto is scheduled to commence his first official engagement on Monday evening upon his arrival in the United States.
