Kenyan Economist David Ndii Reveals He Earns Ksh 666K Monthly, Ksh 45K Per Hour in Consulting

David Ndii, the chief economic advisor to President William Ruto, refuted allegations of government theft, stating his consulting earnings surpass his monthly salary.

Ndii revealed an invoice showing he charged Ksh45,000 per hour for consulting a bank.

For half a day’s work, Ndii earned Ksh417,600 before VAT, compared to his Ksh666,000 monthly salary from the National Government in May 2024 for advising President Ruto and his cabinet.

“My monthly salary is less than two days of consulting work. Iโ€™m not in this for the money,” he commented on his advisory role.

In the invoice, Ndii billed Ksh45,000 per hour for six hours during a strategy retreat presentation.

Additionally, the bank paid Ksh90,000 for a two-hour staff lecture.

Ndii emphasized that the Ksh666,000 monthly salary was his sole income from the Treasury, with no allowances.

He also clarified that he does not consult for the government but provides services to the private sector.

Ndii has been critical of both past and present officials who misuse their positions to embezzle public funds.

This criticism, he explained, has forced Rutoโ€™s administration to make unpopular decisions due to increased public debt from past plundering.

On average, Ndii noted, the National Government spends Ksh200 billion on domestic debt, sometimes paying over Ksh100 billion in a single week.

“One mistake could lead to a financial meltdown. The country is yours to take,” he told Kenyans protesting against high taxes.
