Jaramogi University Student Throws Himself From 5th Floor After Breakup

A second-year student at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) in Bondo, Siaya County, threw himself from an unfinished five-story structure.

Titus Eyamah, a classmate and acquaintance of Samuel Otieno, explained to PoliticalPulseChat that the incident occurred on Friday morning a few meters from his residence at the Milai hostel.

Friends of Otieno, who was pursuing a degree in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), were concerned when he missed his morning sessions.

His body was subsequently discovered at 9:30 a.m. next to an unfinished structure.

Eyamah reported that police officers from the Bondo police station arrived minutes later and transported the body to the Bondo Hospital.

According to Eyamah, the introverted Otieno appeared distressed after his breakup with his fiancée. He believed that Otieno may have been depressed.

“This past week, he appeared heartbroken after he was left by his girlfriend. Aside from that, it seems there were other underlying issues such as exam results that had just been released as well as the institution had increased fees per semester,” he said.
