NCA Goes After Developer Who Installed Plane on Building
The National Construction Authority (NCA) has ordered the removal of a plane that was installed on a building under construction in Utawala.
As per the directive posted on the building’s wall by NCA, there was a structure overload with the installation of the plane.
In videos and photos shared by Boss Yator, a construction expert based in Nairobi, the building is a three-story building with most of the construction work still ongoing.
Parts of the building still had the supporting frames. Doors and windows were also yet to be installed on the from the first to third floors.
On the other hand, there was also a concern over the location of the plane. The plane with some missing parts such as the power plant was installed on the left side of the building.
“Structure overload. Remove the plane,” NCA directed on September 11.

As per Yator who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke, the weight of the plane needed to be considered during the design and construction of the building.
On the other hand, other experts also noted that the activity that would have been witnessed upon completion of the building would have posed a threat given that many onlookers would be excited to see the plane.
As per the National Building Code, 2022 all dead loads including those of rooftop water tanks have to be factored in during the design process.
This ensures that the building can withstand the extra weight and avoid certain incidents such as building collapses which have been rampant in the country in recent years.
“In making the calculations where permanent partitions are shown in the plans, their actual weights shall be included in the dead load.
“The weights of tanks and other receptacles, and their contents, shall be considered as dead loads; and the loads shall be calculated for the cases when a tank or receptacle is full and when it is empty,” reads the regulations in part.
