Itumbi’s Ultimatum: Nation Faces 48-Hour Deadline Over Controversial Headline

Dennis Itumbi, the ICT Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS), has threatened to sue the Nation Media Group (NMG) for alleged defamation in response to a series of articles that he claims damaged his reputation.

Itumbi detailed in a five-page demand letter seen by GossipA2Z how CASs assumed office despite a court order prohibiting them in articles published in both Taifa Leo and Sunday Nation.

Itumbi claimed he was singled out because he led government officials in the preparations for Madaraka Day celebrations.

Itumbi’s attorney Adrian Kamotho Njenga and Company Advocates stated, “Our client’s reputation, which he has worked so hard to establish and maintain, has been severely tarnished.”

While drawing attention to the issue, his attorney issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding the immediate retraction of all statements published by NMG that tarnished Itumbi’s reputation.

Additionally, the CAS demanded an unequivocal public apology for the publications.

In addition, he demanded assurance from Nation Media Group that it would never again publish content likely to harm his reputation.

Itumbi claimed in his analysis of the Nation’s articles that the publications asserted that the CAS carried out his official duties as usual despite a court order.

In addition, he criticized May 21, 2023, Taifa Leo headline titled Mibabe wa Ukaidi (Stubborn Tyrants) and placed his photograph on the front page.

The attorney also debunked the publications’ claims that all of the responsibilities, activities, and roles he assumed were exclusive to the position of CAS.

The CAS asserted that the publication suggested he is desperate to hold the CAS office because, without it, his life would crumble.

He stated that if NMG failed to comply with the demands, he would pursue legal action.

    Ruto’s fifty CAS

Itumbi was one of fifty CASs sworn in on March 23, 2023, during a ceremony presided over by President William Ruto.

The following day, Justice Hedwig Ongudi of the High Court in Nairobi. Prohibited the CASs from assuming office in response to a petition by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK). Challenging their legality.

President Ruto, on the other hand, defended his decision to appoint the 50 CASs by stating that he needed all hands on deck to fulfill the campaign promises.

“Appointing CAS is the objective of my government. It is my choice, and I see the need for CAS in my government.”

“My assistant is almost asleep in the office today. Even Musalia is currently losing weight due to work. Ruto stated in a joint media interview on 14 May 2023, “I need more workers because the agenda of transforming Kenya requires more hands and minds.”
