I didn’t Visit Sniper Murder Suspect, Itumbi to Baichu, Mwangaza
Digital strategist Dennis Itumbi has said he never visited the key suspect in the murder of blogger and political activist Daniel Muthiani alias Snipper in jail as alleged by Meru Governor’s family.
Vincent Mureithi Kirimi alias Supuu and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai alias Tali were on Friday arraigned before the High Court in Kiambu in connection with Snipper’s murder.
On Friday, Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and First Gentleman Murega Baichu held a press conference at their official residence in Meru to demand that the DCI make public findings that linked her brother Tai to the murder.
They also claimed that Itumbi visited key suspect Supuu at Muthaiga Police Station where he is being held alongside Tai.
The governor’s family wants detectives to look into the alleged relationship between Supuu and Itumbi that warranted him to allegedly visit the key suspect in custody.
“Itumbi jana jioni (Thursday) alikuwa ameenda kutembelea suspect Supuu kule station mahali alikuwa amefungiwa. Sijui kama mnajua stories kama hizo? Rumours have it, that he went,” Baichu claimed
(Yesterday (Thursday) evening, Itumbi visited suspect Supuu at the police station where he is being detained. I don’t know if you are all aware of that. Rumour has it that he went there)
In his response to the allegations on Saturday, Itumbi said he had no reason to visit the suspect.
“Her Excellency Governor Mwangaza and the First Gentleman Murega Baichu asked me two questions. I seek to answer as follows,” he said in a statement on Facebook.
“Why did you visit Supuu – The main suspect in the station? I did not. I have no reason to.”
Itumbi claimed he had audio evidence that he would present to the police to help in the ongoing investigations into Snipper’s murder.
Snipper went missing on the night of December 2, 2023, and his body was found on December 16 in Tharaka Nithi.

“After Snipper, no other blogger will ever die because they hold a different opinion,” Itumbi said.
“Asante Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for ensuring that investigations are done and I pray that the masterminds and financiers are also charged. So that a clear message is sent, that the freedom of expression should not be compromised by those who wield power.”
Tai, Mwangaza’s brother, serves as a police officer and as her personal bodyguard.
The governor has termed his arrest and impending judgment over the murder as political.
The prosecution team on Friday made an application to have Tai and Supuu detained for seven more days pending their mental assessment.
They were detained at Muthaiga Police Station until January 29, 2024 when they are expected to take a plea.
Three other suspects including a police officer and a local DJ who the DCI said were forensically linked to the murder, are also in police custody awaiting arraignment on the same day.
The DCI said on Saturday more investigations are ongoing and more arrests will follow.
