Hunger Strike Paralysis: Mackenzie’s Followers Desperate to Walk (PHOTOS)

A group of devoted followers led by cult leader Paul Mackenzie faced significant difficulties while making their way to the Shanzu Law Court on Wednesday.

These individuals had initiated a hunger strike during their period of detainment under police custody.

Out of the 30 individuals detained alongside Mackenzie, at least five required assistance from law enforcement officers to even walk to the courtroom.

According to sources from the police and prosecution, the hunger strike had been ongoing for approximately ten days.

The detainees were distributed across three different police stations, namely Malindi, Kilifi, and Watamu.

Their hunger strike was a collective act of protest against their current situation.

Today, the Shanzu Magistrate Court is slated to make a crucial decision regarding the continued detention of Mackenzie, his wife Rhoda Maweu, and the other 28 co-accused individuals.

The court will determine whether they should remain in police custody for an additional 60-day period. Originally scheduled for last week, the ruling had to be postponed due to the illness of the prosecution counsel.

The charges against Mackenzie and his associates stem from their alleged involvement in the deaths of more than 300 individuals within Kilifi County’s Shakahola forest.

These grave accusations have brought significant attention to their activities and have prompted a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the reported fatalities.

The physical condition of the hunger-striking followers is a matter of concern, as evidenced by their struggle to walk unassisted during their court appearance.

Such visible effects of the hunger strike underscore the seriousness of their protest. And the potential toll it has taken on their health.

As the court prepares to deliver its ruling. The case continues to draw public interest due to the scale of the alleged crimes. And the impact on the followers involved.

The outcome of the ruling will significantly influence the subsequent legal proceedings. And shed light on the future course of action regarding Mackenzie and his co-accused individuals.
