Govt Charging Kenyans Ksh200 to Activate Affordable Housing Account

According to Boma Yangu, individuals in Kenya looking to enroll in the Affordable Housing Program will need to submit a Ksh200 activation fee.

Boma Yangu, the gateway platform for the Affordable Housing Program, specifies that a minimum payment of Ksh200 is required for Kenyans to be eligible to add any house to their wishlist.

To see the available houses, Kenyans need to register on the eCitizen platform initially, allowing them to then access the Boma Yangu residences.

“Once you register, one can view all the available projects on Boma Yangu and add their preferred units to their wishlist,” Kenyans are told. 

On why the a need to pay Ksh200, Boma Yangu explains, “The applicant is needed to deposit a minimum of Ksh200 to activate their account and continue saving any amount at their convenience through the different payment options.” 

How to Pay the Ksh200 Registration Fee

After accessing your eCitizen platform, click on the tab labeled Ministry of Lands, Public Works, and Urban Development, and then navigate to the State Department of Housing and Development.

Within the tab, you can choose “Boma Yangu,” where you’ll be prompted to complete the registration process.

“You must complete your profile by submitting your details, and housing preferences. When you register, your details will be verified by the relevant government agencies,” Kenyans are told. 

Once you click on register, the following notice appears on your screen, “Make your first saving. Start your home ownership journey by making the minimum contribution to activate your account.”

Afterward, you’ll get a notification prompting you to start the payment of Ksh200 using your mobile phone.

Remarkably, altering the payment quantity during the registration activation process is not feasible.

If you choose to withhold the payment of Ksh200, your access to the portal will be restricted to only observing ongoing projects.
