Governor Reveals Shocking Death of County Official After Dinner Collapse
A somber mood has settled over Vihiga County following the unexpected death of County Secretary Ezekiel Maleya Ayiego.
Ezekiel reportedly collapsed and passed away on Tuesday evening shortly after dinner, with no prior signs of illness.
Governor Wilber Ottichilo of Vihiga County confirmed the tragic incident, expressing grief over the loss and describing it as a profound impact on the family and the wider community.
“It is with great sorrow that I acknowledge the passing of Ezekiel Marley Ayiego, who was Vihiga County’s Secretary and Head of Public Service at the time of his death,” the governor remarked.
Governor Ottichilo paid a heartfelt tribute to Ezekiel, honoring him as a dedicated community member committed to improving lives.
“Ayiego, who passed away unexpectedly last night at his home, was a devoted administrator, educator, change champion, and a cherished friend to me and many others,” he shared.

Born on October 20, 1967, in Ingidi village, Lugaga Wamuluma Ward, Vihiga County, Ezekiel led Chesamisi High School as principal from 2018 to 2021 before stepping into the political arena.
His career included roles as principal at Vihiga Boys High School, Ingotse High School, Friends High School Kigama, and Lwanda Secondary School. He also taught at Sunshine High School, Musingu High School, and Namirama Girls High School.
Since 2018, he served as vice organizing secretary of the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA).
Until his passing, he was Vihiga County’s secretary and head of public service.
“He was an exceptionally effective County Secretary in my administration, and together, we worked tirelessly to reform Vihiga’s Public Service,” Governor Ottichilo reflected.
“On behalf of my family, the County Government Staff, and the residents of Vihiga County, I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ezekiel Marley Ayiego.”
