Several individuals are feared dead following a road collision that took place in the Kipsitet Area at Koguta along the Nakuru-Muhoroni Highway on Monday.
The crash happened when a Londiani-bound lorry lost control after hitting a pothole and then collided with a 14-seater matatu heading to Kisumu.
Initial reports indicate that approximately thirteen people have died as a result of the accident, with several others sustaining severe injuries.
A swift rescue operation was launched to assist those trapped under the wreckage, involving both police officers and residents.

The lorry also sustained significant damage to its front, with visuals showing the truck leaning on one side and its windscreen completely shattered.
Kericho County Commander Geoffrey Mayek confirmed the accident and reported that the lorry driver fled the scene. An investigation into the cause of the crash has begun, and the deceased have been taken to St. Vincent Mission Hospital.
This incident comes just two days after a separate road accident at Nithi Bridge on the Nairobi-Meru highway, which resulted in 12 fatalities.
Tharaka Nithi County Police Commander Zacchaeus Ng’eno confirmed that the victims were passengers returning from a parental blessing ceremony in Meru.
Ng’eno noted that the driver was unfamiliar with the highway and was driving on the wrong side when the crash occurred. “We have confirmed the recovery of 12 bodies from the scene and two others injured. The accident involved two vehicles, one heading towards Nairobi and the other towards Meru,” Ng’eno stated.
