Expecting Police to Kiss You on the Streets?- Gachagua

Now, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is saying that the protestors who are taking part in the anti-government protests are the ones who are inviting the police to confront them head-on in the streets.

DP Gachagua claims that if no one goes out onto the streets to picket, then the police will remain in their posts and will not have to engage the protesters in running battles.

After that, he went on to advise the security officers to maintain their posture and not let the criticism from the opposition affect them.

As the Deputy President accompanied President William Ruto on a tour of Murang’a on Friday, he made the following statement: “You cannot go out onto the streets and destroy property and expect the police to come to kiss you.”

Gachagua further asserted that the leader of the opposition alliance Azimio la Umoja One Kenya, Raila Odinga, is engaging in politics of blackmail as he purportedly aims to enter the government through the backdoor. Gachagua made this claim in a tweet.

The country’s second-in-command, on the other hand, reaffirmed his earlier statements and stated unequivocally that something like this will never occur under his watch.

“The only way to get to the government is through the election, which we did last year, and he (Odinga) should wait for the next election,” said Gachagua. “The only route to getting to the government is through the election.”

On his end, President Ruto has made it clear that nobody will get away with committing crimes in this country without facing consequences.

“No one will be allowed to go against the law, regardless of who you are or the authority you think you have or the power you imagine you have,” he declared. “No matter who you are or the authority you think you have or the power you imagine you have.”

“We promised the country that we will make sure that the firm foundation of the rule of law is found to determine how we go forward as a country.”
