Exclusive: 2023 KCPE Students Eligible for Government Scholarships! Here’s How to Apply
The Ministry of Education has declared available scholarships for 2023 KCPE students in Kenya, allowing them the opportunity to enroll in secondary schools.
Per information released by the Ministry of Education, the scholarships aim to assist recipients in managing expenses such as tuition fees, transportation to and from school, essential school supplies, and additional funds for personal use over a period of four years.
According to the Ministry’s announcement, students achieving a score of 280 marks or higher would qualify for review.
“The Ministry of Education through the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation (JKF) and Equity Group Foundation is awarding Secondary School Elimu Scholarships in all 47 counties to needy and vulnerable learners who attained 280 marks and above in the 2023 KCPE exams,” the Ministry announced.
Moreover, students who have disabilities or special needs and achieve less than 280 marks will qualify. Additionally, individuals from disadvantaged and marginalized backgrounds scoring 250 marks or higher will also be considered eligible.

Additional girls and boys who received education in refugee camps and achieved scores of 240 and 250 marks, respectively, will also be eligible for the scholarship initiative.
“Only candidates who sat the 2023 KCPE examinations from public primary school and refugee learners from 49 Camp Based Primary Schools and those refugee learners who attended public primary schools outside the camps in Kakuma, Kalobeyei, and Daadab are eligible,” read part of the statement.
Candidates must satisfy specific conditions to be eligible for the program. Some of these prerequisites encompass being orphaned, originating from informal settlements, belonging to households with parents or guardians living with disabilities, hailing from families affected by chronic diseases, or coming from extremely impoverished backgrounds.
Furthermore, individuals who have experienced neglect and lack familial support will also qualify.
How to Apply
All interested candidates have been urged to make applications by December 28 by 5 pm. The documents should be submitted online or to the nearest Sub-County Education office.
“Interested applicants are advised to collect application forms from the nearest Sub-County Education office. The forms can also be downloaded from the Ministry of Education website education.go.ke,” read part of the statement.
Applicants from refugee camps are urged to apply through scholarship.jkf.co.ke or egfdmis.equitybank.co.ke/register_elimu.
Meanwhile, non-refugee learners should make their applications through scholarship.jkf.co.ke.
Only applicants who meet the set requirements shall be shortlisted and invited for interviews, accompanied by parents/guardians, conducted by the Community Selection Advisory Committees (CSACs).
