On Wednesday, January 3, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) announced its decision to retract a case filed at Maua Law Courts regarding the murder of Daniel Muthian Bernard, also known as Bernard.
In the miscellaneous petition E166 of 2023 submitted at Maua Law Courts, the DPP had requested to hold the primary suspect in custody until the investigations concluded.
Furthermore, DPP Renson Ingonga instructed Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to provide the murder case file within seven days.
The DPP declared the withdrawal of the Maua application and stated the office’s intention to proceed with Miscellaneous Application No. E001 of 2024, which had been submitted to the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kiambu.
In the Kiambu application submitted on January 2, 2024, the DPP requested detention orders for 21 days while investigations into the Sniper murder case were ongoing.
“In the meantime, the DPP has Constituted a Team of Senior Prosecutors to guide the investigations,” a statement from the DPP read in part.
