Defeated Politician Turns Conman: Arrested for Posing as EACC Officer

A politician who ran unsuccessfully for a parliamentary seat in 2022 was taken into custody on Saturday on suspicion of becoming a repeat fraudster.

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) located at the Integrity Centre in Nairobi tracked down the politician, who was hiding at his home in Kitui.

The politician was discovered impersonating a senior EACC official and deceiving unsuspecting Kenyans.

A report revealed that a former MP candidate was providing fraudulent integrity clearance certificates to vulnerable Kenyans.

“An armed and dangerous criminal who has been conning Kenyans while impersonating EACC Detectives, as well as issuing fake Integrity Clearance Certificates to job seekers at a fee, in the names of top EACC officials, has been arrested,” an EACC official told Gossipa2z.com.

The EACC also disclosed that the politician had a history of convictions and was a habitual impostor.

He was quickly transported to Nairobi, where he is currently held at Kilimani Police Station.

The politician is set to appear at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday to address the charges brought against him.

During the arrest, it was also mentioned that the politician had a firearm and seven mobile phones.

The mobile phones will undergo forensic analysis to find out if they were involved in the commission of the crimes.

The EACC has cautioned Kenyans against impersonating its officers, stating that doing so is illegal and could lead to arrest and imprisonment.

Furthermore, people are encouraged to report any individuals they suspect of claiming to represent EACC through any of the easily accessible channels.
