On January 26, homicide investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) successfully located the vehicle believed to have been utilized in the kidnapping of the deceased blogger, Daniel Muthiani Benard, also known as Sniper.

Investigators mentioned that they found the silver Toyota Premio with registration number KCR ***N at a residential location in the Canopy area of Kithoka, Meru County.

“This follows a thorough forensic analysis of crucial leads, which pointed to the residential place,” stated the detectives.

The investigative team stated that Vincent Mureithi Kirimi, also known as Supuu, was identified as the driver who rented the vehicle on the day Sniper was kidnapped.

“He then ferried other three occupants including Brian Mwenda, Christus Manyara Kiambi, and Boniface Kithinji Njihia alias DJ Kaboom. Further investigations are ongoing with the Homicide team working expeditiously on the case,” DCI stated.

The corpse of the sniper was discovered discarded near the Mutonga River in the Chiakariga vicinity of Tharaka Nithi on December 2, 2023.

“Further investigations are ongoing with the Homicide team working expeditiously on the case,” the officials stated.

In the interim, an examination performed on the deceased individual on December 22 by government pathologist Johansen Oduor revealed that the blogger had been strangled around the neck. This was evident from the marks and indications consistent with a person who had succumbed to oxygen deprivation.

After determining the cause of death, the spouse of Sniper continued to insist that she would not bury her husband until justice had been achieved.

Nevertheless, Sniper was laid to rest on January 5 at his residence in Meru County, while investigators initiated legal proceedings.

Subsequently, five people, including Murangiri Kenneth Guantai, the brother of Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza, were brought to court as principal suspects.

Nevertheless, Governor Mwangaza asserted that the homicide investigation was a concerted effort led by influential political figures to persecute her family.
