CS Murkomen Sues Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei Following Bitter Fallout
Kipchumba Murkomen, the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, has initiated legal action against Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei after a contentious disagreement.
On Monday, March 18, the elected senator from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) disclosed that he had received court documents from Milimani Commercial Courts, making the announcement.
In reaction to the civil lawsuit, the Nandi Senator stated that he wouldn’t be intimidated while carrying out his oversight responsibilities.
“We shall defend the great people of Nandi County in the quest for better roads through our blood and sweat,” Cherargei remarked after he was served with the lawsuit.
In December 2023, Cherargei claimed that CS Murkomen had taken legal action against him for suggesting that he had received a Ksh15 billion reward from a Chinese investor.
This occurred after his expulsion from the Senate chambers amidst the intense questioning of the Transport Cabinet Secretary.

Cherargei was cautioned that if he didn’t apologize to CS Murkomen within a week, he would face legal action.
The court papers disclosed by the Senator on Monday indicate that the legal action was initiated on March 12, 2024.
“You are hereby required within 15 days from the date of service hereof to enter an appearance in the said suit,” the court documents read in part.
“Should you fail to enter appearance within the time mentioned above, the Plaintiff may proceed with the suit and Judgement may be given in your absence.”
Murkomen had not recognized the lawsuit before the publication deadline.
Previously, Cherargei had expressed his dissatisfaction with the former Elgeyo Marakwet Senator’s tendency to diminish him in online discussions.
