Lee Kinyanjui Accepts CS Nomination Role as Public Vetting Looms
President William Ruto nominated Kinyanjui on December 19 to head the Trade Ministry, taking over from Salim Mvurya, who was reassigned to lead the Sports docket.
The nomination list also included former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo for the ICT and Digital Economy Ministry and ex-Health CS Mutahi Kagwe for the Agriculture portfolio.
Kabogo and Kagwe have since publicly thanked the president for considering them for these roles.
Kinyanjui, however, remained silent after the announcement, sparking widespread speculation, including social media rumors that he had rejected the nomination.
In his first statement since the nomination, Kinyanjui expressed gratitude to President Ruto, confirming his acceptance of the role.
“For God and country, I accept the honor of nomination to serve our nation as the Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade, and Industry,” he posted on social media.

He further thanked the president for trusting him to manage such a critical ministry, adding, “As always, integrity, respect for the Constitution, and honesty shall guide my way.”
The nominees will face vetting by the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments on January 14. According to the parliamentary schedule, Kagwe will be interviewed first, followed by Kabogo, then Kinyanjui.
Each candidate will have two hours before the committee, with proceedings running from 12 PM to 7 PM.
Members of the public have until January 3 to submit memoranda regarding any nominee.
“The Clerk of the National Assembly invites members of the public to submit written representations on oath (affidavits), supported by evidence, contesting the suitability of the candidates for appointment to the nominated offices,” stated National Assembly Clerk Samuel Njoroge.
