Baftas blunder: Wrong winner announced, erased from TV footage

Yesterday, a MASSIVE error at The Bafta Awards led to the incorrect winner being announced.

The American actor Troy Kotsur took the stage early in the awards ceremony to announce the Best Supporting Actress winner.

Troy, who has been deaf since birth and is 54 years old, was joined on stage by an interpreter.

In an awkward turn of events, the incorrect winner was announced to the audience due to a major error.

Instead of announcing Kerry Condon as the winner, the interpreter incorrectly announced Carey Mulligan as the winner.

While Troy was signing Kerry’s name to his interpreter, the incorrect name was announced to the audience of celebrities.

As the announcer quickly corrected the error, the BBC omitted the moment from the footage shown to home fans.

A source backstage told The Sun, “Troy correctly signed his name, but his interpreter made a minor error.”

Accidents do occur, and it was a genuine error that was quickly rectified.

Kerry, age 40, was awarded for her role as Siobhรกn Silleabhรกin in Banshees Of Inisherin.

After The Banshees Of Inisherin actress Carey Mulligan left the stage, host Richard E. Grant joked, “Carey Mulligan needs a defibrillator.”

It was the first major awards ceremony gaffe since Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway incorrectly announced La La Land as the Best Picture winner at the 2017 Academy Awards.

Condon took the stage and praised director Martin McDonagh, adding, “Thank you for all the roles you’ve given me throughout my career.

“You make me incredibly proud to be Irish.”

However, the actress appeared to be in complete shock backstage.

She elaborated: “The entire event was a blackout, and all I can recall is seeing all the boys staring at me; it was truly surreal.
