Ex-Detective Suggests Blood-Spattered Bench in Nicola Bulley Case

Former detective Martin Underhill asserts that police investigating Nicola Bulley’s disappearance should have inspected the bench where her phone was discovered for blood stains.

An ex-detective asserts that police investigating the disappearance of Nicola Bulley made a mistake by not examining the bench for bloodstains.

45-year-old mortgage consultant and mother Nicola vanished on January 27 while walking her brown spaniel Willow along the River Wyre in the Lancashire village of St Michaels on Wyre.

Divers, search dogs, drones, and boats were observed by onlookers combing the riverbank as part of a massive police search effort.

The search continues on the River Wyre, in St Michael’s on Wyre

Now, ex-cop Martin Underhill asserts that officers made a grave error by not sending the bench where the phone was found to a lab.

Martin, a former Detective Chief Inspector for the Sussex Police and Dorset’s crime commissioner, told the Times, “That bench on that river should have been sent to a forensic laboratory.”

“If Nicola had been assaulted, there could be splatters of blood on it.

“Sadly, it remains in place. It is doubtful, to put it.”

The 45-year-old mortgage consultant has been missing since January 27, when she was last seen walking her brown spaniel Willow near the River Wyre in St. Michaels on the Wyre, Lancashire.

As part of the investigation, search teams have combed the River Wyre to Morecambe Bay.

According to a wild swimmer who has swum in the same river where Nicola Bulley was last seen, “it’s difficult to escape.”

Mark Astin, a photographer, and swimmer, is also skeptical that Nicola fell into the River Wyre on January 27, when she went missing.

Mr. Astin has uploaded a video to YouTube depicting him swimming in the river in June 2021, in areas where the water is up to his waist.

He told Express.co.uk, “The water was so calm the last time we went.” It was a very warm day in the middle of the summer, the water was quite warm, and it was shallow. Some portions of the route will be more difficult to enter and exit than others.

“As you can see from the photographs I took, it’s a very peaceful place to go open-water swimming and a beautiful place to visit during the summer.

“Nicola’s whereabouts are unknown, but I do not believe she fell into the river. I hope they locate her quickly. It is unfortunate what has occurred there.”

The police were observed searching the Wyreside Farm Caravan Park yesterday and the River Wyre down to Morecambe Bay the week prior.
