Ruto Rages: MP Criticized for Skipping Debates, Yet Quick to Oppose Government Plans
A passionate President William Ruto criticized Members of Parliament who consistently oppose his government’s suggestions but are conspicuously absent when required for debates in the National Assembly.
Ruto, addressing a church congregation in Kakamega County last Sunday, mentioned that he had presented a parliamentary bill aimed at addressing challenges in the sugar sector. He recalled a situation where a specific Member of Parliament opposed the bill during public rallies.
He continued to mention that during the discussion of the bill in the House, the mentioned Member of Parliament was not present, a move strongly criticized by Ruto.
“A certain MP came to complain saying “tawe, tawe” and he was just saying that in public. The day I proposed the bill to scrap off the Ksh.117 billion (debt for sugar companies) that person was not in parliament that day, he was protesting in the streets,” Ruto retorted.
“That’s stupidity I cannot entertain. If you truly care about your people be present so that we know you value their interests but on a critical day when matters that affect your constituents are being discussed you are not there and then you have no solutions. All you do is just oppose.”

The President additionally assured that his administration is dedicated to optimizing the sugar industry in Kenya, aiming to make it highly profitable.
He mentioned that the government is looking to lease the sugar companies and expressed concern about Kenya’s substantial expenditure on sugar imports.
“No sugar company will be sold there will be no sale, privatization of any sugar factory we are going to do a leasing management that is going to make sure that we get the best for our farmers, employees, and also for the industry so that we have enough sugar,” he said.
He additionally mentioned that in June, he plans to present a proposal to Parliament requesting an allocation of Ksh.3 billion for the enhancement of sugarcane cultivation within the sugar industry.
A few days later, Bumula MP Jack Wamboka spoke at a rally in Bungoma County, attended by Deputy President Ruto. During his address, Wamboka urged the president not to privatize the Nzoia sugar factory, emphasizing that such a move would adversely affect the local economy.
“People do not want the factory in Trans Nzoia to be sold. Listen Mr.Preisdent, on privatisation or selling we are saying tawe.”
