Kenyans Among 50 Who Have Renounced Their Citizenship To Become Americans

On Tuesday, 50 individuals from different regions across the globe relinquished their native citizenship in favor of acquiring American citizenship.

According to the Pacific Daily News, a group of Kenyan individuals were among the 50 people who recited the Pledge of Allegiance, a mandatory step for obtaining American citizenship.

The citizens of Kenya pursued naturalization for their path to citizenship, and the ceremony took place at the District Court of Guam in Hagatna.

“I hereby declare, on oath, that I renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, State, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen, so help me God,” the Kenyans swore cutting ties with their motherland.

Besides Kenyan individuals, people from Vietnam, South Korea, Thailand, and Guyana also acquired United States citizenship.

Some individuals hailed from the Federated States of Micronesia, the Philippines, and Palau.

The primary advantage of acquiring United States citizenship is that it protects against deportation for Kenyan individuals.

If you hold permanent residency or asylum seeker status, specific criminal convictions may lead to deportation, a consequence that does not apply if you attain citizenship.

โ€œChildren under the age of 18 who are lawful permanent residents automatically become U.S. citizens when their parents naturalize,โ€ the US states another advantage of gaining citizenship.

The Kenyan population will also benefit from other advantages such as being able to apply for government positions, exercising their voting rights, and enjoying the freedom to travel.

Significantly, newly naturalized American citizens can now submit immigration petitions to the government to reunite with their family members.

When journeying beyond the borders of the United States, newly naturalized citizens have the right to seek assistance from American embassies and consulates in the event of personal crises or civil disturbances in the visited country.
