We Are Suffering Yet We Chose UDA- Embu County Employees Plead With Gachagua
On Thursday, a cohort of Embu County employees invaded the county headquarters in an act of protest against the recent mass layoffs.
The county government was accused by the employees of neglecting to renew the contracts of approximately 99 employees without a valid reason.
As they protested the arbitrary terminations, the employees demanded that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua promptly intervene and reinstate them to their positions.
“Gachagua, we are suffering. We chose UDA (United Democratic Alliance), and we are hustlers being harassed like this. Which side of Mt Kenya are we in,” a worker furiously lamented.
The county government, according to the employees, purportedly terminated them without cause and hired replacements from outside the county.
Therefore, the laid-off staff held the county government accountable for not prioritizing their applications during the hiring process.
“They laid them off, many of us, and they employed people from outside and told us one morning without notice,” lamented one worker.

An additional employee observed that expelled personnel were confronted with financial limitations after their unemployment.
“If it is possible, let these people be reinstated so that they can continue with their jobs,” noted one of the protestors
The county workers’ representative, in his remarks to the press, additionally levied allegations against the county government, contending that their dismissal had irresponsibly damaged the workers’ standing.
Additionally, the employees lamented that their replacements were geriatric and therefore unable to perform at the same pace as them, thereby impeding operations.
“We will not agree. This is improper and against all forms of employment, so we reject the move not to follow the law,” the workers’ representative noted.
The workers who were protesting pledged to pursue legal recourse to be reinstated, as the majority of them maintained dependent families.
