Second Murder Suspect of DCI Detective in Kayole Killed

At his residence in Njiru sub-county, Nairobi, a second suspect in the unsolved murder of a police constable (PC) assigned to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was mowed down.

According to a statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), John Kamau alias Farouk was killed in a gun battle with officers on Tuesday morning after refusing to surrender.

“Armed with the CZ pistol that fired the fatal shots that killed detective Mayaka, the bloodthirsty thug had emerged from his apartment door in Njiru Sub-County and shot at one of our men, injuring him on his left thigh,” a portion of the statement read.

In a dawn operation on the second floor of flat B4-124, an elite team of detectives from the Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau killed the criminal on the spot in retaliation.

The weapon of Farouk was recovered alongside 12 rounds of ammunition and various mobile phones, all of which were believed to have been acquired violently from victims of crime in the city.

The DCI adds that ballistic reports have linked the weapon to over five armed robberies committed in Nairobi and Kiambu Counties over the past year.

DCI wrote that the robberies targeted MPESA locations in the densely populated residential areas of Kayole, Buru Buru, Dandora, and Dagoretti.

“Detectives have since determined that the recovered firearm was violently stolen from an aide to a former Cabinet Secretary in a robbery reported on November 17, 2021, in Ngong, Kajiado County,” the sentence reads.

Farouk’s death follows the apprehension of Alex Wanjiru, 23, another murder suspect.

Wanjiru’s hiding place at his grandmother’s house in Ruthingiti, Kiambu County, was discovered, and his escape motorcycle was seized.

Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched for the third suspect, identified as Henry Njihia, who is believed to be armed and dangerous.

On August 10, three armed criminals shot dead Constable David Mayaka in Kayole, Nairobi County, while he and his wife were changing a flat tire.

CCTV footage captured his murderers traveling by on a motorcycle, opening fire, and shooting Mayaka and his wife Hellen Kemunto in the abdomen and leg, respectively.
