Why President Ruto and I Admire Jalang’o- Gachagua
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua shared the reasons why he and President William have a fondness for Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, also known as Jalang’o.
During a women’s empowerment event organized by the legislator on Saturday, Gachagua mentioned that he is a leader who has a clear plan and cares about the well-being of his constituents.
The DP mentioned that although there were concerns about him defeating their close friend to win the Lang’ata MP seat, they still appreciate him because he cares about his constituents and has a clear vision for their future.
“Mlichagua kiongozi ambaye ako na sera, ako na mipango na ako na maono na Rais wetu amekuja kumpenda huyu kijana na mimi nimempenda huyu kijana zaidi kwa sababu ako na mipango ya kazi na anapenda watu wake,” Gachagua said.
This loosely translates to, “You elected a leader who has policies, plans, and vision and our President has come to love this young man (Jalang’o) and I have loved this young man even more because he has work plans and loves his people.”
Gachagua stated that the MP frequently seeks the President’s assistance with development projects in his district.
He mentioned that when Jalang’o can’t get in touch with the President, he approaches the Deputy President.
“Kila siku ako pale kwa Rais, akimkosa anakuja kwangu kwa mambo ya maendeleo ya Lang’ata.” (Every day he is at the President’s, if he doesn’t find him he comes to me for the development of Lang’ata.)

The Deputy President addressed the audience on Saturday during a fundraising event held at Nyayo Stadium, where he joined women’s groups from the Lang’ata constituency.
He had been invited by the Lang’ata MP as the chief guest.
Gachagua encouraged the women and locals of Lang’ata to stand behind Jalang’o as one of their own.
The Lang’ata MP is one of the opposition lawmakers who went against their party leader and chose to collaborate with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The decision has led to him and others facing criticism, as Azimio leader Raila Odinga calls for all ODM dissenting MPs to step down and pursue new mandates with parties aligned with the ruling Kenya Kwanza.
Others include Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda, Suba MP Caroli Omondi, Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda, and Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo.
The five MPs were expelled by ODM’s National Executive Committee after the party determined that their actions went against the official party position.
They, however, moved to court to overturn the ODM NEC decision.
