Why Limuru III Chose Uhuru as Mt Kenya Kingpin Despite His Retirement- Kioni
Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni on Monday, May 20, explained the selection of former President Uhuru Kenyatta as the Mt Kenya political leader at the Limuru 3 meeting, despite his retirement from politics.
During an interview on K24, Kioni explained that the meeting’s attendees chose Uhuru due to the considerable respect he commands among both political and cultural leaders in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.
Kioni acknowledged that leaders from both Kenya Kwanza and Azimio factions held Uhuru in high esteem, regardless of their political and ideological differences.
He also noted that Uhuru had previously held the highest office in the country, serving two terms as president.
As such, Kioni elaborated that Uhuru was seen as the only leader capable of addressing grievances and uniting the community.
“Despite potential divisions in traditional leadership, people respect Uhuru. Politicians may have differing views, but he commands respect,” Kioni stated. “Although he has retired from politics, we want him to join us in discussing our issues. Having already served as President and our leader, why wouldn’t we appoint him?”

However, Kioni clarified that Uhuru did not seek the position; instead, the attendees of the meeting chose him.
Kioni added that a future meeting would be organized with Uhuru to present the memorandum from the Limuru 3 meeting.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta was named the political leader for the Mt Kenya region, which includes 10 counties: Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyandarua, Kiambu, Nakuru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Meru.
During the meeting on Friday, May 17, leaders from these 10 counties discussed issues affecting the community, such as revenue allocation and the Kenya Kwanza taxation regime.
They also deliberated on the political direction of the community in preparation for the 2027 elections.
