Why Kalonzo is Suing Duale Over Uhuru – Ruto Meeting
Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced his intention to file a lawsuit against Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, alleging that Duale’s book, titled “For The Record,” contains misrepresented facts.
In an interview with Spice FM, Kalonzo asserted that Duale’s description of a visit to his residence by former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his successor, William Ruto, was inaccurate.
The ex-Vice President asserted that he never conveyed to the pair (Uhuru and Ruto) the alleged statement made by Duale, suggesting that they would face imprisonment at the Hague.
Kalonzo questioned why the Cabinet Secretary could ascribe the remarks to him when he wasn’t in attendance at the gathering.
Kalonzo stated that the gathering at his residence had been organized by politician Jimi Wanjigi to negotiate a deal and strategize for the upcoming 2013 elections.
“Out of that, I have heard stories saying that I said that when the two of them (Uhuru and Ruto) go to jail at the Hague, then I will take over. Can you imagine? What Vice President or human being would tell a suffering duo that when you go to jail, I will come and help you? That is why I am suing Duale.
“He has written a book on that chapter and he was not there. It is a very interesting suit against Duale because he wrote things he did not know. Therefore, I recommend Kenyans to read my book,” he stated.

Yet, Kalonzo did not disclose the filing date for the lawsuit. The specific allegations against the CS were also not specified.
Duale has previously mentioned the gathering at Kalonzo’s residence. As per the Cabinet Secretary, the plan was for Kalonzo to run for president with Uhuru as his vice-presidential candidate.
Ruto was slated to become the majority leader, with each party receiving 33 percent of government representation. However, as per both Duale and Ruto’s versions, the purported comments made by Kalonzo about the duo facing imprisonment led to the breakdown of the agreement.
In a revealing manner, Duale acknowledged in a Spice FM interview on May 11, 2023, that he did not attend the meeting. Nevertheless, he asserted that Ruto and Kalonzo personally informed him about the sequence of events that transpired during the gathering.
“Kalonzo is very casual in his talk and Kalonzo said ‘I am a senior counsel and both of you are not lawyers, your case is not that bad’.
“He told them when they came back, he would hand it over to them. That infuriated the former President (Uhuru) and he walked out to go to the gazebo,” he stated.
