Wetangula Kicks Out MP Atandi in Heated Debate over Sabina Chege’s De-Whipping.
Alego Usonga Speaker Moses Wetangula has expelled Samuel Atandi, the first member of parliament, from the chamber.
Atandi was expelled on Wednesday. As emotions ran high over Speaker Wetangula’s failure to communicate Minority side changes. To remove Nominated MP Sabina Chege as Deputy Minority Whip.
Although it was unclear what Atandi had said amid the chaos. The Speaker was adamant that he had done the right thing by expelling the lawmaker.
The Minority, led by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, protested vehemently against the Speaker’s decision to investigate Atandi’s offense.
However, Speaker Wetangula stood firm and maintained his position.

“The fact that you did not hear the member’s offensive words does not mean he did not utter them. Wetangula stated that the Speaker cannot and will not repeat the member’s words because doing so would amount to aggravating an offense on the House floor. “The Speaker cannot and will not repeat the member’s words.
“Any attempt to challenge my decision violates the standing orders, and I will not permit it regardless of your leadership position,”
Minority Leader Wandayi lamented the delay by the Speaker. In communicating the changes made by his side, which included the removal of Sabina Chege as the Deputy Minority Whip. Which sparked the heated debate.
Opiyo accused Speaker Wetangula of undermining the Minority by attempting to choose their leader in the House on their behalf.
“This House would be incomplete without the Minority, so we deserve everyone’s respect. It is not the responsibility of the Majority or the Speaker, who is our Whip or Deputy Whip, to convey this message. Since it has been over a month since I sent you my last letter, it is clear that our side is incapacitated,” charged Wandayi.
On Thursday, however, Speaker Wetangula promised to communicate whether Sabina will be de-whipped from her position.
“I want to assure you that the Speaker will not engage in local politics, nor will he participate in the management of any party or coalition. “However, the Speaker’s oath also requires him to protect and defend the Constitution, and he will do so without favor or bias,” he said.
“The ruling you seek is in its final stages, and I can assure you that you will receive it on Thursday”
