We Have No Money For Kenya Cup Winners, Says KRU Boss Mutai
Kenya Rugby Union chairman Sasha Mutai has declared they have no money for the 2023/2024 Kenya Cup winners Kabras Sugar.
Speaking exclusively to Citizen Digital, Mutai who has recently been under siege in the unionโs board says owing to the lack of a league sponsor, the union will not be able to award the winners in the Kenya Cup, Championship, and other respective tiers.
โThe truth is there is no prize money because we have no partners, and the partners will only come in if you have your act together which is what we are currently doing.
โ…So once we get in the partners, of course, we are very open and transparent, we have sent out proposals we were about to get a sponsorship late last year but because of the internal problems that we have had at KRU it did not materialize,โ said Mutai.

He also noted that the internal wrangles being experienced in the Union and the ongoing case in court have slowed down their pursuit of sponsors for the league
โOnce we have sorted out things and that is what the sponsors have said clearly, they are excited and willing to come back to rugby. Once that is done of course the money will trickle down to all the clubs.
โRegarding the administration, this year we have done the whole year and all the referees have been paid. When we got into office, referees were lamenting for going for months without pay but we have ensured this season that they are promptly paid every weekend.โ
Kabras Sugar defeated KCB Rugby 29-05 at the Kakamega Showground on Saturday to clinch their third Kenya Cup title in a row.
However, their only reward will be the pride of being league champions with nothing in their pockets after a long and grueling season.
