Wamatangi Terminates Contract with Company Undertaking Project in Kiambu
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi announced on Sunday that his administration has ended a contract with a contractor hired during the previous administration.
The contractor responsible for building Bibirioni Level 4 Hospital in Limuru had delayed the construction process since the contract was awarded in 2018.
Bibirioni Level Four Hospital, a 270-bed facility, was initiated in May 2018 by the former First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta, but stalled in 2019.
Wamatangi stated that the construction, which started in 2018 and was scheduled to be completed in 2020, was delayed because the contractor couldn’t finish the project.
Despite receiving payment for services in 2022, the contractor continued to delay the project, according to Wamatangi.

When Wamatangi took office in 2022, he cleared all outstanding invoices, including those of other contractors working on stalled hospital projects, and instructed them to return to the site.
However, despite receiving the funds, the project remained incomplete, with the Kiambu County Government attributing the delay to the contractor’s incompetence.
Comparing the Bibirioni Hospital with other projects he revived in 2022, Wamatangi noted that the contractor showed no tangible progress, while others showed some improvement.
In contrast, contractors on other projects like Rukuma and Thogoto resumed and continued their work, but the Bibirioni contractor remained slow.

The Auditor General, Nancy Gathungu, in her April report, raised concerns about the status of Bibirioni Level 4 Hospital, Tigoni Hospital, Lari Level 4 Hospital, and Ruiru Level 4 Hospital, criticizing former Kiambu Governors James Nyoro and Ferdinand Waititu.
