Waiguru and Kihika Support Mwangaza After Impeachment
A section of UDA female governors have pledged to support embattled Meru Governor Kawira Governor after she was impeached on Wednesday.
The impeachment proceedings are now headed to the Senate.
In a statement on Thursday, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihiki advised the Meru county chief to keep her head up high.
“My dear sister Governor Kawira, keep your head up and know that you are not alone. I stand with you,” she said.
Turning to prayer, Kihika said that she prays that her Meru counterpart will overcome all these trials and come out stronger and a winner.
“May the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; May the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. It shall be well my sister!” she added.
On her end, Council of Governor chairperson and Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru advised the Meru county chief to turn to God during this tough time.
“Asiye kuwa na wake ana Mungu… I stand with you my sister Governor Kawira Mwangaza. It’s darkest before dawn. Look to the Hills from where your help comes from. There is God in Heaven,” she said.
Governor Mwangaza was on Wednesday unanimously impeached by the Meru County Assembly following the tabling of a second motion for her removal from office.
All 59 MCAs who were present in the House voted in support of the motion to remove Mwangaza from office.
The impeachment comes after MCAs on Monday completed mandatory public participation hearings in nine sub-counties and retreated to write a final report that was tabled in the Assembly on Wednesday.

MCAs accused Mwangaza of committing seven violations which formed grounds for her impeachment.
In the first count, the MCAs accused Mwangaza of misappropriation and misuse of county resources.
They claimed the governor has been among others, embezzling county funds using her relatives including sisters, a brother, and a nephew.
They accused the Meru governor of making withdrawals of county funds under the guise of payment for various supplies that were made by her relatives.
The MCAs also claimed Mwangaza diverted county resources for personal use.
Mwangaza was also accused of nepotism and unrelated unethical practices, where she is said to have employed her relatives.
She is also accused of taking her relatives on overseas trips in the guise that they are experts.
The MCAs also alleged bullying, vilification, and demeaning of other leaders in the county, illegal appointments, and usurpation of statutory powers.
Mwangaza is also accused of contempt of court, illegally naming a public road after her husband without following statutory procedures, and contempt of the Assembly.
As guided by law, the impeachment will head to the Senate which will determine Mwangaza’s fate.
